Guided Autobiography
Uncovering the Richness of Your Life Story
Guided Autobiography (GAB) is a transformative approach that empowers individuals to delve into their life stories with the guidance of a trained facilitator. This structured process offers a profound opportunity to reflect deeply on significant experiences, gaining invaluable insight, perspective, and a richer understanding of one’s personal journey.
Over the course of ten sessions, each focused on a specific life theme, participants engage with a series of thought-provoking questions tailored to elicit memories and encourage the writing of approximately two pages of their life story. These themes include branching points in life, family, money, career paths, health, gender identity, perspectives on death, spirituality, and goals and aspirations.
The primary goal of Guided Autobiography extends far beyond the mere documentation of personal histories. It seeks to stimulate self-discovery, fortify resilience, and cultivate personal growth by guiding participants to comprehend their life narratives in a deeper and more meaningful way.
Research conducted with pre-posttest assessments of Guided Autobiography (GAB) has demonstrated remarkable outcomes. Participants have shown significant improvements in self-acceptance, reduced anxiety, increased energy, a more positive outlook, and enhanced connections with others.
This transformative 10-week program can be offered all at once or in two segments; the first being 6-weeks long, the second, 4-weeks in length. Each session lasts 2 hours and is designed for small groups of up to 6 participants. By engaging in this collaborative and confidential process, individuals embark on a journey of self-exploration, empowered to uncover the richness and complexity of their life stories.
