Neuroarts

Writing

Writing in many of its forms can be such a useful coaching tool, one of the many Neuroarts we can use to develop our envisioned life.  I have been using a planner called “The Life you want” by Oprah, and I highly recommend it. The planner serves as a container for your journaling with prompts and quotes to allow you to reflect and plan. The Wheel of Life tool at the beginning helps you to decide which intentions for each month you would like to focus on. For example In February I chose Connection as my intention. It really helped to focus my efforts on connecting to the energy of life force, myself and others. The result at the end of the month was a greater sense of alignment and connection, a fundamental human need according to the work of Dr Gabor Mate. I have carried that sense of connection with me through the year, focussing on additional intentions each month.

Drawing and painting

Drawing and painting are central to the visual arts, and there are many drawing and painting techniques that we can use to increase our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. For example a simple technique of making marks on the paper in response to words describing emotions can give us another way to see the emotions, a starting point for discussion and a visual record,
Try this: Write the word Agitated and Calm on two sides of  a page then allow your hand to move the pen across the page and see what marks you make in response to your feeling agitated and calm. How do the lines reflect the meaning of the words? Are they sharp, curved, jagged, smooth? How would you describe those marks?
