Oh yes, the Art Part!
Incorporating art activities in conjunction with coaching techniques in your session, such as drawing your breath, drawing the spaces between things, bilateral movement, upside down drawing. These all help us to focus on tasks that our “left brain’ * doesn’t have any interest in, so left brain gets a break while right brain gets a chance to express and explore. A chance for anxious energy to be calmed and channeled and used as creative energy.
I know that “left brain, right brain” labeling is a little simplistic, but I am using the term to here to refer to verbal and analytic processes, (left), and non verbal and global, (right). The key idea is that there are two parallel “ways of knowing”.
Art is one of the main elements that helped me recover after I suffered a breakdown as a teenager. Focusing on the world outside myself to draw from reality helped me get “out of my head” and back in to my body and connect with energy outside myself. I completed a Foundation in Fine art and a BA Hons in Three dimensional Design.
I continue to paint and draw and you can see what I’ve been up to on francesloganart.ca
