My Journey to Coaching
Several years ago I found myself in a difficult job transition and hired a coach to help me through it. That experience exposed me to what a coach actually does and demonstrated how powerful the experience can be. As someone who values having meaningful conversations and loves to learn about others and what makes them ‘tick’, coaching felt like a natural fit.
Now I help my clients define what matters, identify how they hold themselves back and use that information as they navigate a path to fulfillment.
I’ve spent more than a decade working in post-secondary education at a college in downtown Toronto. I have worked in a variety of sectors including health & wellness and entertainment.
I hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with distinction from the Edinburgh Business School.
I am certified as an Adult Educator, am a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach and am certified with the International Coaching Federation and the Co-Active Training Institute.
My Core Values
When I began my coaching journey, it included an exercise in getting clear on my core values. Core vales are deeply ingrained principles that shape who you are as a person. I’ve found that knowing these values help bring clarity to uncertain situations and can be tremendously helpful in guiding the decision-making process.
My top three values are:
Health
I have spent the better part of the last decade feeling grateful for many things, but mostly for my good health. This was reinforced when my husband was diagnosed with cancer over ten years ago. Having supported him through a cancer journey that spanned several years with two diagnoses, two operations, 24 months of chemo treatments and years of recovery, I have an even deeper sense of gratitude for the gift of life and good health. I try to honour this daily by eating well, exercising and taking time to be mindful.
Self-Development
As a self-declared lifelong learner, I am always looking to learn more. Most recently, I completed a certificate in Workplace Learning and Adult Education from George Brown College. The knowledge and skills that I developed not only taught me a lot about myself and how I best learn, but have helped me appreciate the range of different learning styles that each of us has and that to be a truly effective instructor, you need to accommodate a variety of learning needs.
Adventure
Anyone who knows me understands that exploration is part of my DNA. I have a passion for traveling because it allows me to experience new and different. Whether it’s climbing a mountain, eating a new food or trying to speak a foreign language – I love the challenge and exhilaration that comes from seeing how others in this incredible world live.
