I learned the importance of communicating effectively the hard way.

My first managerial job was challenging; I was put in charge of a team and tasked with setting up a department in a new country. One of my new hires was struggling with the work. Not only was the job a challenge for her, but she had also been recently quite ill.  Although I had taken the required manager training, it didn’t prepare me for the realities on the ground.  She needed support, I was over my head, and we weren’t able to deliver as we wanted.

What I really needed was someone to coach me on how to communicate effectively with both my colleague and my boss, so we could turn things around.   This experience motivated me to learn the skills and tools necessary to communicate confidently and make a meaningful impact.  When I left the corporate world,  I knew I wanted to focus on sharing my experiences and helping others to communicate more effectively.

Communication is not just about finding the right words or telling a story.  Those help.  But it’s also about more intangible qualities, such as mindset or empathy.  This is where a coach can really make a difference.

My training and coaching is about combining practical communication skills with empathy to help you find what works for you so you can succeed.
