Client agreements

Coaching is a collaborative, professional relationship between coach and client. As a credentialed coach, I am committed to following the ICF Code of Ethics, which addresses my ethical and legal obligations to clients, sponsors, coaching colleagues, and the public at large.

Legally, the coach-client relationship is not a confidential relationship, and communications are not subject to the protection of any legally recognized privilege. Unless compelled legally, I do not disclose any information specifically pertaining to a client nor do I use a client’s name as a reference without the client’s written consent.

In addition, I follow these guidelines, which are spelled out in my written coaching agreement with each client.

  • Reporting client information. When reporting data regarding coaching hours and client demographics, I submit aggregated numbers that are not linked to specific clients. An exception may occur if the ICF requires the names, contact information, and start and end dates for client relationships when verifying my eligibility for credentialing. However, no personal or coaching session information is shared.
  • Recording coaching sessions. I may record coaching sessions for training and development purposes, preserving the client’s anonymity. Before sharing any session recordings with a coaching mentor, supervisor, or assessor, I will request the client’s consent. The client may request and receive a copy of any of session recordings.
  • Confidentiality. According to the ethics of the coaching profession, coaches may anonymously or hypothetically share topics from coaching sessions with other coaching professionals for training, supervision, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.
