What I offer: Rooted in experience, science & inner wisdom
My Coaching, Mentoring and Consulting services are rooted in my professional background in social sustainability and my studies of human behaviour, as well as my practices of animistic- and Zen-based mindfulness. My extensive experience, studies and inner wisdom are often manifested in these areas: Well-being, Sustainability and Intercultural Resilience. They are not abstract concepts to me — they are lived, professional, and deeply integrated into how I work with my clients.
Besides, they help me to cover a whole person, the multiple levels of human complexity.
- Being professional and personal.
- Being affected by cultural and societal demands, as well as one’s own emotional and mental patterns.
- Having conscious and unconscious biases, beliefs and values.
Well-being
The concept of well-being means different things to different people. Through my personal and professional experience of living in Japanese and Scandinavian societies, I have come to understand that well-being encompasses much more than just physical and mental health.
It is not limited to work-life balance, but includes financial security, social participation, cultural integration, and emotional wellness. Ultimately, I consider it the ‘happiness we seek’. Unless we define the concept like below, we can never reach it.
- Autonomy and freedom of choice
- Social connection and participation
- Financial stability and safe environment
- A sense of purpose and coherence in one’s life.
In my coaching, I transform the concept of multidimensional well-being into practical tools and actionable strategies, such as daily habits and shifting perspectives, to support my clients in designing a fulfilling and resilient life.
Intercultural Resilience
My approach to any individuals and cultures is making the familiar strange and the strange familiar. It is an important anthropological perspective to stay curious.
Although culture is often formed by groups of individuals or communities, each person has a unique worldview and way of being — a unique blend of cultural influences from their family and surroundings.
Before passing judgement, I encourage people to become aware of their thoughts and emotions, which will eventually lead them to recognise their biases and mental frameworks. They can then use this awareness as a powerful tool for growth and accountability.
- Why is something considered “normal” in one culture and not in another?
- How do my own assumptions shape the way I see the world?
Asking ourselves and others questions like these will expand our awareness and increase our understanding of different perspectives.
Sustainability
I have worked in the field of corporate sustainability and social responsibility for over a decade. Dealing with sustainability issues forced me to see the ‘big picture’, considering not just the corporate perspective, but also the balance between the environment, society and the economy.
We don’t want to harm the environment, yet we also don’t want to give up our comfortable, convenient lifestyle. Life is full of dilemmas. We experience that things are not always black or white. Dealing with the topic of sustainability has taught me the importance of balance and acceptance.
Moreover, sustainability issues are deeply personal. Today, the challenges of external sustainability are increasingly manifesting as eco-anxiety, prompting many individuals to explore what is now termed ‘inner sustainability‘.
In my coaching sessions, I often ask a simple yet powerful question: ‘Is it sustainable for you?’
Whether we are discussing goals, habits, work structures or relationships, this question helps my clients to build lives that they can maintain — and thrive in — in the long term.
