This morning I caught myself feeling as if I were trapped in an eddy. I was swimming hard, but being swirled in circles unable to progress on my journey. All it took was one question to lift me out of the eddy and see potential ways to continue my journey: What would a creator do in this situation?

I finished a body of work today, something I’ve done many times before. My usual approach is to quickly pick up another pile of work and get straight back into it. However, today I’m trying something different, namely I’m taking some time to savour, appreciate and enjoy the accomplishment. What milestone or accomplishment do you want to savour this week?

Conversations often arise on how to support staff stepping up into new roles. But I’d like to flip the conversation for a moment to how can we support staff stepping down from leadership roles, secondments and special projects. If not done well we run the risk of under-utilising or even losing top talent. How can we make the most of their newly developed skills once the project/crisis/role is over?
